Handel's Messiah was first performed in Dublin on April 13, 1742. It has become one of the most familiar and popular of English oratorios (An oratorio is a large musical composition for orchestra, choir, and soloists). Virtually everyone has heard many of the songs of Handel's Messiah—at the very least, the Alleluhiah Chorus.

The idea of the audience participating in the singing of the Messiah dates back 170 years to the middle of the 19th century. There are many such sing-a-longs done every year in the US.  This year, the Chester Community Chorus and the St. Andrew's Academy & College Choir are bringing that tradition to Lake Almanor. A small ensemble of instrumentalists will accompany the choir and audience as they sing through a selection of the best known pieces of Handel's Messiah, lasting about an hour. A reception with immediately follows.

Donations will be taken to help cover the expense of this first ever Handel's Messiah Sing-A-Long in the Lake Almanor Basin.Links:
