CITY OF GLENDALE KICKS OFF AMERICA250 ARTS AND MUSIC SERIESGlendale, Arizona – The City of Glendale officially launched its America250 Arts and Music Series with a successful opening event, “The Colonial Tavern Experience,” drawing more than 100 attendees to the Main Library on Saturday, May 16. The summer-long series celebrates America’s cultural history through music, storytelling, theater, and live performances leading up to the nation’s 250th anniversary. Guests at the kickoff event enjoyed a lively series of historical vignettes highlighting colonial America, including blacksmithing demonstrations, tavern traditions, and daily life in the nation’s earliest days. “The Office of Arts and Culture is proud to team with Library Services to provide a fun and free series that honors the best of America. From live renditions of some of America’s most iconic songs, to interactive experiences with the cast and talent, all the way to free Ice Cream, this series encapsulates the very best of Americal,” said Christopher Taylor, Glendale’s Arts and Culture Administrator. The America250 Arts and Music Series continues throughout the summer with a diverse lineup of performances and educational experiences designed to showcase the evolution of American arts and culture.
Upcoming events include: C and K Productions Thursday, June 4 at 6:00 p.m. A high-energy vocal duo performing eclectic renditions of beloved American classics including America the Beautiful, This Land is Your Land, and more audience favorites.
Sounds and Stories of the Jazz Age Thursday, June 25 at 6:30 p.m. An exploration of America’s jazz heritage featuring instrumental favorites from George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, and other legendary artists from the swing era.
Pick and Holler Band Saturday, June 27 at 2:00 p.m. A quartet performing pre-country and early American acoustic music on fiddle, violin, and bass.
Secret Harbor Music Saturday, July 11 at 2:00 p.m. An acoustic trio celebrating U.S. Naval history through traditional sailing songs and maritime storytelling.
Sugar Thieves Thursday, July 23 at 6:00 p.m. Known for their sultry blues roots and powerhouse delta sound, the Sugar Thieves deliver a musical journey inspired by America’s early blues traditions.
Driftwood Quintet Thursday, July 30 at 2:00 p.m. A classical chamber ensemble performing iconic American songs through engaging and educational arrangements.
Citizen Tom Paine Thursday, August 6 at 2:00 p.m. A staged reenactment set in Philadelphia in 1776, chronicling writer Thomas Paine’s publication of Common Sense and the growing movement for American independence.
All events will take place at the Glendale Main Library and are open to the public. This family-friendly series invites the community to come together for unforgettable evenings of entertainment, complete with free ice cream and commemorative flags.
