Southern Nevada Brownfields Open House on May 12

Las Vegas, Nev. — The Cities of Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, and Henderson will host a regional Southern Nevada Brownfields Open House on Tuesday, May 12, from 3:00–4:30 PM at the Las Vegas Civic Center Public Room, located at 525 S. Main Street, Las Vegas, NV 89101. The event is open to property owners, realtors, developers, lenders, and community stakeholders interested in revitalizing underused or environmentally challenged properties across the valley.

The Open House will offer an overview of brownfield programs throughout the region and provide opportunities for attendees to learn about free brownfield reuse assistance, ask questions, and talk with city staff and team members.

The session will highlight several key resources available through local brownfield programs, including:

  • Environmental site assessments, including asbestos and lead‑based paint evaluations

  • Planning assistance for cleanup and redevelopment

  • Strategies for reducing redevelopment barriers and unlocking economic potential

  • How brownfield revitalization supports community goals, economic development, and long‑term neighborhood health

These offerings are designed to help property owners and partners overcome common challenges associated with reusing underutilized land. Attendees will learn about available resources and opportunities for overcoming reuse challenges and unlocking reuse potential.

The event is free to attend. RSVPs may be submitted to: events@thePMAagency.com

About Brownfield Sites and Environmental Site Assessments

Brownfield sites are properties where real or perceived environmental conditions make reuse more complicated. In Southern Nevada, these sites often include former commercial or industrial properties where past activities may have left behind contaminants such as petroleum, solvents, asbestos, or lead‑based paint. Many remain underused because owners lack clear information about environmental risks or the resources to address them.

Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) are the standard tools used to understand a property’s environmental conditions. Through historical research, site inspections, and—when needed—sampling, ESAs help determine whether cleanup or mitigation is necessary. Local brownfield programs strengthen this work by offering free assistance with “environmental site assessments including asbestos and lead paint” and by helping property owners plan for cleanup and evaluate reuse options.
