Henderson Professional Fire Fighters, the City of Henderson's Fire Department, Parks and Rec, and Henderson Hospital Host “Safe Pools Rule!” Event wit

The Henderson Professional Fire Fighters, in partnership with Henderson Hospital, the City of Henderson Fire Department, City of Henderson Parks and Recreation, and the City of Henderson Mayor and City Council, successfully launched the 2026 Safe Pools Rule! Public Education Campaign. This annual initiative, now in its fourteenth year, aims to educate the public on drowning prevention, a leading cause of preventable and unintentional death among young children in southern Nevada.

The event, held at Henderson Multigenerational Center, featured a series of remarks from key community partners, including Henderson Mayor Michelle Romero. The mayor emphasized the importance of water safety as summer approaches, urging every family in southern Nevada to make it a critical conversation. A mock drowning was also conducted, demonstrating the urgent response required during such emergencies and underscoring the campaign’s life-saving message. A safe swim session immediately followed, to provide safety lessons from lifeguards to parents of young children.

"The Safe Pools Rule! launch event marked another milestone in our ongoing efforts to prevent drowning incidents across southern Nevada," said Zach Davis, president of the Henderson Professional Fire Fighters. "Our goal is to ensure that every family understands the risks and takes the necessary precautions to keep their loved ones safe around water. Through this campaign, we aim to provide vital education and resources to the community and will continue to spread essential water safety information throughout the summer, reinforcing the message that with proper education and precautions, drownings can be prevented.”

“Henderson firefighters respond to water-related emergencies every year, and too often, these incidents involve young children,” said Henderson Fire Chief Scott Vivier. “Prevention is our most powerful tool. Through education, awareness, and community partnerships like Safe Pools Rule!, we can help families understand how quickly a tragedy can occur and, more importantly, how to stop it before it happens.”

“At Henderson Hospital, we’ve seen firsthand the devastating impact drowning incidents can have on families,” said Sam Kaufman, CEO and managing director of Henderson Hospital. “We are proud to support initiatives like Safe Pools Rule! that focus on prevention and education. By working together as a community, we can save lives and ensure children stay safe while enjoying the water this summer.”

The Southern Nevada Health District reported 39 submersion incidents occurred in Clark County in 2025, 82 percent of them involving children under age four. Most submersions occurred in residential swimming pools. These statistics highlight the critical need for ongoing public education and awareness campaigns like Safe Pools Rule! which strives to reduce these tragic incidents by educating the public.
