Touro University Nevada Debuts Intensive Course to Prepare First Responders for Emergencies

Touro University Nevada is offering for the first time a three-day course designed for the first responder community (EMS, fire service, and law enforcement) or other healthcare professionals. This course bridges the gap between traditional EMS training and the realities of high-threat, civilian environments where every second matters and hesitations costs lives. What sets this learning experience apart from others is the realism; the hands-on scenario-based approach mirrors the complexity of real emergencies and prepares providers to perform under pressure when it matters most.

The 2nd edition of NAEMT's Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) course teaches EMS practitioners and other prehospital providers how to respond to and care for patients in a civilian tactical environment. The Rescue Task Force (RTF) course teaches the concepts and principles of incorporating FD/EMS providers into the Warm Zone, providing TECC care, and victim evacuation.

The course will be held at Touro Nevada’s simulation center, Casey Maurice, who is the center’s director and a former paramedic, shared that this course isn't just about the skills; it is about mindset. She knows firsthand the importance of training responders to think, adapt, and delivers life-saving care even when the environment is working against them.

The 24-hour classroom course includes all new patient simulations and covers the following topics:

  • Hemorrhage control, including immediate action drills for tourniquet application throughout the course

  • Complete coverage of the MARCH assessment

  • Surgical airway control and needle decompression

  • Strategies for treating wounded responders in threatening environments

  • Caring for pediatric patients

  • Techniques for dragging and carrying victims to safety

  • A final, mass-casualty/active shooter event simulation.

The Rescue Task Force component of this program will teach first responders current best practices in RTF formations and movement, command and control, and culminate in scenarios based on real-world incidents. RTF is accredited as a CAPCE-approved Continuing Education activity.

The course will run March 23–25, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the registration fee is $750. To attend please register online at: tinyurl.com/tundisastermedreg
