11th Annual KHTS Sacramento Road Trip Almost Filled

11th Annual KHTS Sacramento Road Trip Almost Filled
Only 4 openings remain for the 11th annual KHTS Sacramento Road trip announced KHTS owners Jeri Seratti-Goldman and Carl Goldman.
“We’re taking 120 community leaders with us to our State Capitol for two days on March 14th and 15th, 2016 to advocate for issues impacting our Valley. Half of our group will be traveling with us on the bus, the remainder will fly. We have a wait list for the bus because KHTS broadcasts during the ride. We share a lot of information about the issues we will be covering on the trip,” stated Goldman.
The trip is planned in cooperation with California State Assemblyman Scott Wilk and his staff. “It’s a unique experience,” Wilk shared. “No other district does anything like this, having a diverse group of leaders taking two days out of their busy schedules to travel to Sacramento and discuss the important issues impacting our Valley. We meet with key decision makers. It gives them a chance to hear about the issues from a very different perspective.”
This year’s issues include Water, High Speed Rail, Worker’s Comp, Education, Funding for Mental Health programs and the possible Marijuana legalization initiative.
The trip includes dinner with a key-note speaker. Governor Jerry Brown has spoken in front the group during a previous trip. Last year’s speaker was California State Treasurer, John Chiang.
“Our group is very diverse. We have very broad representation,” shared Goldman. “School Superintendents, our Mayor and other City Council members, Board members from College of the Canyons, The William S. Hart School District and our Elementary School Districts, The Santa Clarita Chamber of Commerce, The Valley Industrial Association, The Santa Clarita Valley Economic Development Corporation, The Castaic Lake Water Agency and many of our key non-profits are joining us. Scott Wilk does an incredible job making sure we get in front of the right decision-makers, from both sides of the aisle.”
Wilk added, “I participated in many of the KHTS Sacramento Roads Trip before I represented the 38th District in Sacramento. So I understand what it can accomplish. It not only leaves a powerful message with our State Legislators, it takes the message back to Santa Clarita as participants share their experiences of spending two days in our Capitol.”
The KHTS Sacramento Road trip was a creation of former State Assemblyman Keith Richman and KHTS owner Carl Goldman. Richman hosted the first KHTS trip in 2006, with 35 Santa Clarita leaders riding the bus. The annual KHTS road trip has continued through the six years Assemblyman Cameron Smyth represented the 38th District and now for the third year of Assemblyman Scott Wilks leadership. As word spread about the experience, the group quickly grew to its current sell-out of 120 Santa Clarita community representatives.
“We try to have half our group be first-time participants so more Santa Clarita residents can understand the issues impacting our Valley.” Goldman added. “We also include four High School students on the trip so they can share the experience from a different perspective. We want to inspire them to continue their leadership roles beyond High School and hand the baton to them as they become our future leaders. Our Assemblyman spends time taking them on a private tour of the Capitol and sharing his experiences. It’s very empowering.”
The 11th Annual KHTS Sacramento trip is sponsored by the Southern California Gas Company, Union Bank, The Castaic Lake Water Agency and California Credit Union who awards two scholarships to William S. Hart district seniors to attend the trip.
With the bus already sold-out with a wait-list, the cost for the four remaining slots for the trip is $395.00 which includes the hotel and dinner, but does not include airfare. Contact carl@hometownstation.com if you would like to attend.
