Event Name:
1930's Harvest Hoedown
Description
1930’s Harvest Hoedown MONROEVILLE- As the heat of the summer growing season fades to the cool crispness of fall evenings, our attention turns to the bounty of the harvest in this still-rural community. To continue celebrating the 50th anniversary of the publication of Monroeville native Harper Lee’s masterpiece To Kill a Mockingbird, the Monroe County Heritage Museum will be hosting a 1930’s styled Harvest Hoedown, inspired by Maycomb County’s farm products pageant. Travel back in time as the lawn surrounding the Old Courthouse becomes the setting for a simple Alabama county festival. Come in period dress to dance under the stars, or just stomp along, as our favorite regional band, Rollin’ in the Hay, stirs up the night air with the sounds of fiddle and banjo. Enjoy down-home food, such as brunswick stew, ham bisquits, local sausage, turnip greens, cornbread, boiled peanuts and apple fritters, all washed down with sweet, sweet iced tea. (Paper bags & drinking straws will be provided for those who prefer to bring something a little stronger). Prize of 25˘ awarded for “Best Ham Costume”. Festivities will begin at 6:00 pm and end at 10:00 pm on Thursday, October 14, 2010. Tickets are priced at $15.00 and may be purchased in advance by calling the Museum at 251-575-7433. Home
