The California Symphony presents some of greatest works in the symphonic repertoire created for opera, ballet and musical theater. Join us in experiencing again these beloved masterpieces by some of the most innovative composers of their day. And discover for yourself why each was profoundly influential for its time – from Bizet’s Carmen, the first to introduce stark realism to traditional opéra comique; to Copland’s Rodeo in collaboration with choreographer Agnes de Mille, inspiring the emergence of American Ballet; and Bernstein’s West Side Story, marking a turning point in American musical theatre.
Maestro Barry Jekowsky will also introduce an emerging talent, eleven-year-old classical guitarist Roberto Granados of Hayward, who had the honor of performing for President Obama before he took office.
