The mission of the Good Neighbor Alliance is to provide and assist displaced persons/families in need with safe, temporary shelter and access to supportive services to work toward helping them achieve economic and social self-sufficiency. Established in 1998 by Pastor J. David Barkley and members of Sierra Vista United Methodist Church to address a critical gap in the safety net for homeless men, women, and families with children in Sierra Vista and surrounding communities.
Incorporated as a 501c3 non-profit organization, GNA opened Samaritan Station, a nighttime shelter, in 2003. The organization expanded its services in 2022 by adding a Day Program, allowing guests to remain at the shelter during the day. Since December 2005, GNA has also operated a commercial kitchen, providing meals to shelter guests and unsheltered community members, having served over 15,000 meals with the help of community volunteers.
