Founded in 2014 by Ross Matlock and Jen Faivre, the West Elk Soccer Association (WESA) emerged from a shared desire to elevate soccer in the Gunnison Valley beyond its recreational roots. What began as a passion project quickly evolved into a thriving organization dedicated to developing players through high-quality coaching, balanced competition, and a lasting love for the game. Guided by a belief that soccer should be both fun and challenging, WESA has built a strong foundation that emphasizes skill growth, sportsmanship, and community engagement for players of all ages and abilities.
WESA continues to shape the local soccer community through year-round programming, a dedicated coaching staff, and opportunities for both recreational and competitive play. Its mission extends beyond the field cultivating leadership, teamwork, and personal responsibility in every player, coach, and referee. With a commitment to positive learning environments and player development, the association strives to foster a culture where success is measured not only in wins, but in the growth, character, and lifelong passion that the game inspires.
